The installed Adguard program with the setting enabled, even in the Stealth Mode features enabled, does it better than any extension which might offer similar features, protections, and defeats - but Adguard does it from a system network level. It also rotates your user agent (which identifies your browser), which further scrambles your online activities in the eyes of whoever is watching. It also blocks various "social widgets", such as Facebook Like buttons, Twitter badges, etc, which are embedded into millions of websites and report all your activity to their respective companies. Any other applications you may be using on your computer will utilize your ISP provided IP address.Īdditionally it blocks thousands of ad beacons and trackers that could follow you across the websites you visit, and compromise your privacy even if you are already using a VPN.
The browser extension provides a "Lite" VPN client, which does the same thing as the desktop one, but only in your browser. I try to learn something with most members questions on the forums, so bear with me. Hope there's some way to fix this since I'd really like to be able to use Adguard with my Firefox setup and not need an extra ad blocker within firefox when there's already a "system-wide" one running. Does that mean, Adguard will block every connection done to a proxy within a browser? That would be quite unpleasant wouldn't it? How would a proxy work in Windows then, where the only option to connect to one would be through the browser directly? (or did i miss something on this side?) Is there any way I can be done to make the Firefox extension created VPN to work WITH the desktop Adguard application? As far as i realised, looking at Firefox' settings, the VPN connection is established via a proxy within firefox. Connection (with VPN via extension) blocked. Next: enabling Adguard with https filtering enabled.
Next: enabling Adguard with https filtering disabled. VPN connection (from Firefox extension) worked just fine. First thought "maybe the servers are somehow down or the extension isn't working" – started up windscribes desktop app, everything worked just fine. First I was like "ugh what?!" until i tried disabling the VPN connection established by the extension.
So I just wanted to use Firefox configured as always with the windscribe extension enabled when it kept telling me there is no connection to the internet.
